How are coaches selected?
The Athletic Committee provides information regarding its application and selection process to individuals who express interest in coaching. The process typically begins when, a few weeks in advance of the season, the Committee publishes notices in the Parish Bulletin and Wednesday Wireless asking that interested individuals contact the relevant sports coordinator. In some sports (e.g., basketball), individuals are asked to complete an application which requests information regarding their desire, experience and similar information. When several applicants express an interest for a limited number of positions, those applicants often are invited to appear before the Committee to supplement the information provided in the application. The Committee will then vote on the applicants.
How do I register a concern about my child’s coach?
If parents or participants have any concerns with any aspect of the athletic program, they should first discuss the matter with the coach(es) involved. If the problem(s) cannot be resolved in this manner, the relevant Sports Coordinator should be notified. Thereafter, if necessary, the Athletic Committee Chairperson should be contacted to address the matter during the next monthly meeting. The Athletic Committee recommends that parents or participants allow twenty-four hours to pass after the incident giving rise to the concern prior to first approaching a coach.

At the end of each season, coaches distribute evaluations to be filled out by the parents and returned to the Sports Coordinator.

VOLUNTEERING
Are parents expected to volunteer in support of their student-athlete’s participation in the Christ King Athletic Program?
Among the parent responsibilities listed in the Christ King Athletics Handbook is the requirement that parents “[p]rovide volunteer service to the athletic program by helping with various programs or events.” This volunteer service often takes the form of coaching or “gym duty.”

Parents may have their children with them and they may supervise their children who assist, but children are not acceptable substitutes for their parents.

MISCELLANEOUS

A physical examination is required every two years for every student-athlete. Participation privileges may be suspended for student-athletes failing to meet this requirement.
Can a student-athlete participate on two teams in the same sport during the same season?
Archdiocese rules mandate that a student-athlete may compete concurrently in only one sport, on only one team in the same sport, and in only one league during the sport season. For example, a student-athlete on a parish-based team who attends a public school may not play on the parish team and the school team concurrently. A student may not play on a school/parish team and another team such as a select, all-star, club, tournament, AAU or recreation league team at the same time during the season. Participation in sports not governed by the Archdiocese, such as swimming, gymnastics, hockey, etc., are not subject to this regulation.
